Constitution of the Parish Pastoral Council

 

    1. Name

    The Council shall be called “St Joseph’s Parish Pastoral Council”.

    2. Purpose

    The Council will be concerned with upholding its Mission Statement as below:

    Mission Statement

    The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) exists to support and advise the Parish Priest in serving the needs of the parishioners and the local community and has a special responsibility for promoting lay involvement and leadership in the spiritual and community life of the parish.

    3. Membership

      i. The Council shall consist of a maximum of fifteen members (including the Parish Priest).

      ii.  The period of office shall be for a maximum of four years

      iii. Any member failing to attend four consecutive meetings without reasonable excuse shall be deemed to have resigned

      iv.  Vacancies are to be filled by nomination, arrangements for which will be published in the Parish Newsletter.

    4. Officers

      i. The Parish Priest will be President of the PPC.

      ii.  The Council shall have a Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer who are to be elected bi-annually by the Council.

    5. Meetings

      i. The Council will hold a meeting six times a year. These will normally be held on the first Tuesday of alternate months starting in January.

      ii.  Prior to each meeting the Parish Priest, together with the chairperson and secretary shall draw up the agenda. Members of the Council/Parish are invited to submit items for the agenda.  An announcement from the ambo should invite parishioners to submit items for the agenda.

      iii. The PPC are to hold an Annual General Meeting in the Spring to which all members of the Parish will be invited.

    6. Quorum

    A quorum shall consist of one half of the Council members

    7. Sub-committees

    The Council may set up sub-committees to advise on matters of special pastoral concern. Other people may be asked to volunteer to serve on these committees to lend their particular expertise and competencies

    8. Ongoing formation of members

    Study reflection and in service education on the nature and mission of the Church are of paramount importance for every member of the Council

    9.  Amendment

     This constitution may be amended as circumstances require but in any event is to be appraised  every four years.
