Pope Benedict XVI declared a year dedicated to St. Paul, beginning on June 28, 2008, the eve of the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, and continuing through June 29, 2009. The Holy Father said that the year, marking the 2000th anniversary of the saint's birth, should be used to heighten appreciation for the Apostle to the Gentiles and to his project of promoting the Christian faith and the unity of believers

Today (6th July) our Bishops ask us to celebrate Day for Life and this year we focus on mental ill-health.
- ª In his recent Encyclical Spe Salvi Pope Benedict reminds us that “we must do whatever we can to reduce suffering: to avoid as far as possible the suffering of the innocent; to soothe pain; to give assistance to overcoming mental suffering. These are obligations both in justice and in love, and they are included among the fundamental requirements of the Christian life and every truly human life.” (SS 36)
- Day for life is not just a chance to learn about a particular issue but also an opportunity to see what we can do as individuals and as a community to reach out and offer hope to those who are in need.
